How to tell the time in Japanese

Q: Hi there!  I’ve been learning Japanese from your fantastic mp3s and games for just over a week now & and I’ve pretty much just mastered how to tell the time. One question I want to ask though concerning this is how to tell the time by minutes, for example how would I saw 10:20 am, or 2:15 pm etc? Thanks very much! -Matthew

A:Hi Matthew, I’m glad you’re liking the materials. Telling the time is really easy, you just say the hour + 時 ji + minutes + “pun” 分  e.g. 12:10 is 12 (juni) ji 10 (jyu) pun. If you use the 24 hour clock (which is quite common) you don’t need to worry about AM or PM!
