Should English names be written in Katakana or Hiragana?

Q: I’ve been wondering: should english names be written in Hiragana or Katakana? – Dwayne

A: Always katakana.  You could phonetically write them in hiragana, but it would look like a kindergartner had written it!  Similarly you could possibly find a similar kanji for your name, but it would look like you were trying to be too clever.  So katakana is the best choice.

(Or Romaji of course, but then not everyone can read it!)
